Friday, january 30th. My school open its gates to the public.

when i leave my appartment, it’s very bright outside. i’m still tired from the night before (protests), but i feel happy.

when i arrive at the metro station, i see this

Everytime it’s sunny outside, i’m blind when i exit from my school’s metro station.

29th of january's protests in Paris.

January 30th, 2009 — 2:30am

at the beginning of the demonstration, i wasnt much inspired. so instead, i suggest you take a look at what Vincent did HERE … very good set of photos. But he left before things got.. spicy.

So let me show you what i’ve got.

i was at the head of the demonstration, it was rather empty
empty street

i met 3 homeless polish guys, and and i fell into some kind of love stories with the one on the right, and he was sad when i told him i was in love with someone else. :) i’ll go back there to give them a print of those..
)
hehe

shortly after this, i met my best friend Fanny and we went and pooped in the hard rock cafés toilets.

fanny and me

we walked for a bit and she went home.

the demonstration stopped in front of the big Opera, and a lot of people left, but a lot of people stayed also. being louder and louder in their shouts… i got interviewed by a sort of famous journalist who was there with his red carpet on which he interviewed people ;)

telelibre

People gathered on the opera’s steps…

sarko bang bang

0344

aaaaaa

and then a werewolf came

wolfyand the sun came down…

banks and fumes banks banks banks ! i like how this one can find its meaning outside of this particular event.

i focused on the people i didn’t expect to see near the fumes..

lady

kid

friend of kid

it was freezing cold… oh well.

Night-time. People were really loud now.

aaah

other torches were lit.

red

by him

himi found a sheep…

sheep

and then, the torch found its way to the riot police.

torchman

some wooden boxes got on top of it.

boxes

And fire started.

It was now time for photographers to put on their fanciest masks.

mask?

For people to grab the heavy stuff..

tree

For the police to charge…

charge

and over and over, for the rioters and the police to be face

faceto faceto face

So the people burnt more things

burnnnAnd tried to find ways to prevent the police to charge.barricade

Some older people even tried to go and talk with the police, for them to be less violent.

diplomat

didn’t really work.

some girls got lost in their thoughts…

girl

While policemen were showing off their guns to each other, appreciating the size of them.

size matters for boys

didn’t keep the fire from burning

firrree

and nor the guy from blowing in his flute

flute guy

Still, there were times when they would run, hit, and run and hit everything that’s in front of them.run hitby the way, i don’t know what this guy thinks he’s doing, in the bottom right corner with the pink tie. he seems pretty much out of place. And other thing : the police walked on two old persons during this, and had to draw back, being very badly organised. they seemed very stressed out.

The scene had spectators

dans le restaurant

and another old lady went and talked with the police…cool lady

said police laughed at a guy who had fallen down

hohohuhu

on the other side…

fist

fire

i badly needed to warm up my hands, it was pretty convenient.

sarkozy, quitthis says : “sarkozy, quit your job”

For this one below, i probably caught someone’s flash, i don’t know… yeah.

red blue

anyway, some people passed by, with fur coats and trendy clothes

fur

and the confrontations went on…

flag

some people helped each other :)

help

and others suffered from the tear gas they had sprayed on people… i guess you can call that irony?

tear

… and finally some people kneeled (with some attitude)

smoke

last shot on the memory card… after this, i went home.

...my face still stings from all the tear gas i received. i took some of the shots partially blind… yeah.

it felt good to be back in that kind of stuff.

feel free to tell me which photos work for you !

and don’t forget to check Vincent’s livejournal entry :)

take care.
