at the beginning of the demonstration, i wasnt much inspired. so instead, i suggest you take a look at what Vincent did HERE … very good set of photos. But he left before things got.. spicy.
So let me show you what i’ve got.
i was at the head of the demonstration, it was rather empty

i met 3 homeless polish guys, and and i fell into some kind of love stories with the one on the right, and he was sad when i told him i was in love with someone else. :) i’ll go back there to give them a print of those..

shortly after this, i met my best friend Fanny and we went and pooped in the hard rock cafés toilets.

we walked for a bit and she went home.
the demonstration stopped in front of the big Opera, and a lot of people left, but a lot of people stayed also. being louder and louder in their shouts… i got interviewed by a sort of famous journalist who was there with his red carpet on which he interviewed people ;)

People gathered on the opera’s steps…

and then a werewolf came
and the sun came down…
banks banks banks ! i like how this one can find its meaning outside of this particular event.
i focused on the people i didn’t expect to see near the fumes..

it was freezing cold… oh well.
Night-time. People were really loud now.

other torches were lit.

by him
i found a sheep…

and then, the torch found its way to the riot police.

some wooden boxes got on top of it.

And fire started.
It was now time for photographers to put on their fanciest masks.

For people to grab the heavy stuff..

For the police to charge…

and over and over, for the rioters and the police to be face
to face
So the people burnt more things
And tried to find ways to prevent the police to charge.
Some older people even tried to go and talk with the police, for them to be less violent.

didn’t really work.
some girls got lost in their thoughts…

While policemen were showing off their guns to each other, appreciating the size of them.

didn’t keep the fire from burning

and nor the guy from blowing in his flute

Still, there were times when they would run, hit, and run and hit everything that’s in front of them.
by the way, i don’t know what this guy thinks he’s doing, in the bottom right corner with the pink tie. he seems pretty much out of place. And other thing : the police walked on two old persons during this, and had to draw back, being very badly organised. they seemed very stressed out.
The scene had spectators

and another old lady went and talked with the police…
said police laughed at a guy who had fallen down

on the other side…

i badly needed to warm up my hands, it was pretty convenient.
this says : “sarkozy, quit your job”
For this one below, i probably caught someone’s flash, i don’t know… yeah.

anyway, some people passed by, with fur coats and trendy clothes

and the confrontations went on…

some people helped each other :)

and others suffered from the tear gas they had sprayed on people… i guess you can call that irony?

… and finally some people kneeled (with some attitude)

last shot on the memory card… after this, i went home.
my face still stings from all the tear gas i received. i took some of the shots partially blind… yeah.
it felt good to be back in that kind of stuff.
feel free to tell me which photos work for you !
and don’t forget to check Vincent’s livejournal entry :)
take care.
